Projects over the 2009 winter

hens eating out Now that we've left the snow behind, I figured I'd take the time to post some pictures of what we've been up to over the winter. We've sold off all but one of our roosters, and of course the hens. The hawk has just been making his presence felt again by trying to rip the face off one of our unluckiest ladies. In the... uh... face of such dangers, those hens just keep cranking out the eggs. We went from a couple of dozen a day at the end January to 6 dozen a day almost over night. I think they decided winter was over before I did.

Chicks

RIRs and SL Wyandotts We've started a new flock of 100 RIRs and 50 Sliver Laced Wyandotts. These guys should have us drowning in eggs around September unless you great folks keep buying us out!

Meet Hank!

hank eats the camera Hank is a mini pot bellied pig. We have intentions of raising the bigger kind, but this guy was offered up and has made a home here. Hopefully his old family can see he's having a good time here. We've set him up in an empty chicken coop for the time being, and will be working this spring on a permanent place for him and milk goats to live. hank and lilly hank and sarah hank and tom

Home Built Greenhouse

greenhouse temperature Greenhouse! What more can I say. I've wanted one for a long time, and finally built one this January with the help of Sarah, her Father, and a friend. It's pretty easy to do, and was fairly inexpensive. The double layer helped us keep a nice warm temperature even through the snow we had after. greenhouse front view greenhouse side view greenhouse inside greenhouse seeding some plants
